The art to a good café requires essentials that in their finest, are not easy to have all in one place. A real cup of coffee, is undoubtably a must. There also has to be a sort of charm along with some stylistic choices that add uniqueness. And here in Prague, the essential beverage that separates the mediocre from the best, is a cold mug of fine beer. Located in Nové Město Café Kolíbka is such a place that fits the formula.

With Úněticke 10° and 12° on tap, Café Kolíbka has a fine cup o’joe, and a simple but pleasant interior. Quiet during the day, and filling up in the evening hours, the crowd ranges from old card playing men, to young, slightly grimy but trendy artsy types, as well as the middle-aged thirsty workforce.

Also on tap, they serve Chýně‘s unfiltered amber lager, and have a daily menu of soup and a healthy main dish, plus the usual pub snacks of parek (hot dog), pickled cheese, and klobasa. The staff are friendly and bustle about during the busy hours delivering drinks as quickly as possible. Local art is displayed on the walls, and the music is up-beat, trendy, but not disturbing. Prices are completely fair, especially when compared to other cafes in the center.

Located on Řeznická in Novy Mesto, Café Kolíbka is an ideal place to kill some time over a lager on a lazy afternoon, or meet a few friends in the evening. A quick walk around the corner, take trams 9, 3, 14, or 24 to tram stop Vodičkova.
