Pub Review

Lokal (Dlouha)

One of the most important factors of making Czech cuisine and beer good is simplicity- and Lokal has that down perfectly.

With some of the best Pilsner on tap (you can taste a huge difference here) and simple, classic Czech dishes with a home cooked taste, Lokal is perhaps the best place in Old Town for good Czech beer and food.

Their Pilsner is served in chilled mugs, with delicious creamy foam on top that only comes from the best taps. They have a variety of other drinks as well- including their own brand of slivovice, as well as merunkovice, and hruskovice. Service is excellent the staff is friendly, helpful, and genuinely concerned that you have enjoyed your time there. If your beer is about finished, someone will appear offering you another delicious mug, which is hard to refuse.

Lokal is a fantastic place to have real Czech food. The dishes are simple- but good quality and tasty. Their rizek (schnitzel) is great, and their tatarsky biftek (tartar steak) is one of the best in Prague.

The interior is simple, but well decorated to give a pleasant atmosphere of old Czech culture from the 1960’s and 1970’s. If you plan on going on a weekend, make a reservation- this place, even though it’s quite huge, fills up quickly. Lokal is more popular among a younger crowd, but has something to offer everyone who likes good Pilsner. Located just off of Old Town Square on Dlouha street, this is a great place to meet friends after work, or start a fun night out.

By metro, take the green line to Staromeska Namesti, or the yellow line to Namesti Republiky, and then trams 5, 26, 14 to Dlouha Trida.
