Beer Geek Bar Beer Geek's 30 tap adventure into beer nerdom

After running a successful specialty beer shop with 4 taps, Beer Geek has decided to expand to a 30 tap, full-sized pub. Located on Vinohradská just by Jiřího z Poděbrad, the new Beer Geek bar is a delight for anyone who fancies extreme choice and quality beers.

Beer Geek’s 30 taps continuously change, serving beer from superior Czech craft breweries, as well as a prime selection of international brewers. Changing literally by the hour, the menu includes beers from Czech breweries like Falkon, Matuška, Kout na Šumavé, and Clock. The international selection includes a steady supply of BrewDog, Thornbridge, Anderson Valley, Mikkeller, and Schneider Weisse. Styles vary from lagers to kölsch to saison to porter, with an emphasis on ales.

One of the few pubs with a hand pump, they have two taps that serve cask ale. On their opening night, they served the owner’s home brew of a British mild, which lasted all of two hours. The variety of beer varies, but includes beers like Matuška’s ESB.

The interior is modern, with a low key, minimalist feel. Wooden floors and benches with high bar stools fill a dark dusty blue room, decorated with simply framed light bulbs. In the back, their fully stocked, chilled storage room is seen through large windows. For take away, they have two fridges of chilled beer ready to go. From their high tech menu and advanced tap system, the technology used in this pub is impressive, and one of a kind in Prague.

Currently, the only food they have are simple snacks like pretzels and peanuts, but a kitchen is in the works and should be open soon (mid-November 2014). The plan is to serve a menu of beer snacks and finger food.

The staff is friendly, bi-lingual, and most importantly, beer geeks themselves, with knowledge about the different beer styles and the history behind them. They can happily suggest a beer to your liking, or give you info on the most up-and-coming Czech brewery. Their honesty is also commendable; if a beer is sub-par, they won’t recommend it and it won’t be on tap again.

Located on Vinohradská just across from Jiřího z Poděbrad, Beer Geek is easily reached by the A metro line and tram 11, with the closest stop being Jiřího z Poděbrad. Just across the square on Slavíková, their original shop is still open.

If you’re interested in learning more about Czech breweries and beer styles, PragueBeerGarden.com is hosting a beer tasting on December 6th.
